Bayard Canada is created and begins publishing in Quebec with the publication of Pomme d’Api and J’aime lire magazines.
1994
Bayard Canada joins forces with Agence Science-Presse and Réseau Technoscience, the founding organizations of the educational movement and publishers of Les Débrouillards magazine. Together they create Publications BLD.
1997
Bayard Canada acquires Owl Communications, publisher of Chirp, Chickadee and OWL magazines for young English-speaking readers in Canada. The company now operates across Canada in both official languages, reaching young readers from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
2000
Bayard Canada acquires the Novalis license, owned by Saint Paul University, and takes over the activities of Editions Novalis, a major Canadian publisher of religious magazines and books, including the well-known Prions en Eglise and Living with Christ.
2001
Publications BLD launches Les Explorateurs magazine, for “nature-loving” 6-10 year olds.
2004
Bayard Canada acquires Editions Banjo, which becomes Bayard Canada Livres Inc. Bayard Canada becomes a children’s books publisher in Quebec.
2008
Bayard welcomes the Canadian children’s book publisher Maple Tree Press, established in Toronto for over 30 years, which now operates under the name Owlkids Books.
Saint Paul University withdraws from its publishing activities and sells Novalis to Bayard Canada.
2011
Senior Publications, which produces and distributes Bel âge and Good Times magazines, with which Bayard Canada has been associated since its creation, moves into the company’s offices.
2014
Publications BLD launches Curium, the science-techno-society magazine for 14-18 year olds, and publishes at that time 40 magazines a year.
2017
The Publications BLD team, in collaboration with the Chickadee and OWL publications teams, launches the first national I Read Science Day. In 2021, it attracts 40,700 participants!
2022
Les Débrouillards magazine celebrates its 40th anniversary, a success story in Quebec that continues to this day.
2023
Bayard Canada acquires Bertrand Foucher Bélanger, a distributor of religious articles, whose boutique moves into Bayard’s headquarters in Montréal. With this acquisition, Bayard Canada becomes the leading supplier of services, books and products to parishes in Quebec.
